Spring has arrived—at least, that’s what the calendar says. Here in Ottawa, winter isn’t quite ready to let go just yet. Yesterday, as we made our way through a late-season snowstorm to the National Arts Centre for a breathtaking Ice and Fire concert dedicated to Sibelius, I found myself reflecting on what spring truly means.
The birds have arrived, chirping their tentative songs, yet the streets are still dusted in white. Meanwhile, my family back in Italy is already basking in what they call a ‘real’ spring—warm air, blooming fields, the scent of fresh beginnings.
Spring is a season of contrasts, of transition. Having spent many years in Lisbon before moving to Canada, I’ve experienced the gentler version of this season—where the light softens, jacaranda trees bloom, and the city wakes up from its mild winter slumber. Now, experiencing spring in Ottawa, I’m learning to embrace its unpredictability. One day, there’s snow; the next, the world feels on the verge of transformation.
This feeling of shifting seasons and new beginnings resonates deeply with me right now. My brother and Carla are expecting a baby this September—right in the middle of both our birthdays! I’m going to be an aunt, and I can’t contain my excitement. A new season, a new life, and a whole new chapter for our family.
Meanwhile, in my stock photography, I’ve been revisiting my past springs—working through my archives from my time in Mexico in Spring 2023. That year was filled with rich experiences, capturing the warmth of Oaxaca, collaborating with local communities, and immersing myself in the vibrant stories of the region.
Now, as I work on the home page of my Stocksy Portfolio, to give it a much needed Spring Look, I want to bring together these moments—past and present, near and far—to celebrate the beauty of spring in all its forms.
Spring isn’t just a change in weather; it’s a shift in perspective, an invitation to reflect on where we’ve been and where we’re going. Through Spring in My Feed, I hope to share glimpses of this journey—scenes of quiet blossoms in Lisbon, the buzzing life of Mexico’s markets, and the slow but certain awakening of Ottawa’s landscape.
Let’s welcome the season together, wherever we are in the world.
